Soil Salinity Prediction Using Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems under Semi-Arid Environments Irrigated with Salty Non-Conventional Water Resources

چکیده

The effects of climate change on food security have been unfavorable, particularly in the area Murcia where there is a water shortage. To satisfy crop needs, farmers combine several irrigation sources, such as brackish groundwater, desalinated water, reclaimed and water. Good agricultural practices are essential for preventing soil salinization production losses, remote sensing might be used to evaluate these practices. This research, performed an experimental field under greenhouse conditions open-air commercial lettuce irrigated with non-conventional determined that Salinity Index (SI) applied bare useful spectral index, providing R2 range 0.40 0.83. other metric soil, Normalized Difference (NDSI), exhibited poor correlations, values high 0.49. Moreover, thermal camera did not operate well within greenhouse, but it plot, canopy temperature was linearly correlated, value 0.50. second analyzed vegetative metric, Plants (NDVI), exclusively vegetation showed minimal relationships salinity. In visual evaluation maps, patterns were strikingly comparable electrical conductivity which case indices. use moderately saline sources negatively impacts development by decreasing fresh head weight increasing sodium chloride leaf concentrations.

Comparative Study among Different Semi-Empirical Models for Soil Salinity Prediction in an Arid Environment Using OLI Landsat-8 Data

Salt-affected soils, caused by natural or human activities, are a common environmental hazard in semi-arid and arid landscapes. Excess salts in soils affect plant growth and production, soil and water quality and, therefore, increase soil erosion and land degradation. This research investigates the performance of five different semi-empirical predictive models for soil salinity spatial distribu...

Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems as a Rhinoceros Anti-Poaching Tool in Africa

Over the last years there has been a massive increase in rhinoceros poaching incidents, with more than two individuals killed per day in South Africa in the first months of 2013. Immediate actions are needed to preserve current populations and the agents involved in their protection are demanding new technologies to increase their efficiency in the field. We assessed the use of remotely piloted...
